Listener Questions:
Q1 - 6:30
Q: I have heard so much fuss about Fats lately. When I was growing up, my parents always bought Low-Fat versions of everything, I’ve always tried to avoid fats like the plague! But now I hear more and more people talking about fats being healthy for you, which is just hard for me to understand. What makes fat healthy? And what are some of the best sources of fats I should be eating?
-Molly in New York
Q2 - 10:38
Q: I am so excited for Dr. Gittleman to come on the podcast because I want to talk to someone about perimenopause. I am only 40, but I have noticed over the past year or so my period has become very erratic. I’ve been pretty consistent with my period my whole life. Another thing I’ve noticed is a major decrease in my sex drive. 40 seems a little young to me to be going through the change already, none of my girlfriends seem to be experiencing the same thing. My gyno says that everything is normal. Is this early to be transitioning into menopause? What are some foods that I can eat, supplements I should take, things I should be doing to make the transition go more smooth?
-Jeanette in Knoxville
Q3 - 12:34
Q: I am 45 and I think that I am in the early phases of Menopause. I am debating the pros and cons of Hormone Therapy. My Doctor is really pushing it but I have read some opposing viewpoints online. What is your opinion? I am also curious, when can I safely stop taking birth control?
-Mary in Delaware
Q4 - 15:41
Q: After reading your book, I am working really hard to cut back my sugar. I am so shocked as I learn more about all the things that have hidden sugars! What are some tricks I can use to spot out these hidden sugars, and some keywords I should be looking for when I am scanning labels? I don’t have time to do a deep dive research on every single food I eat!
-Olivia in Newport News
Q5 - 17:35
Q: I went to the Doctor for a hemorrhoid, which is embarrassing, and he told me I wasn’t getting enough fiber. I eat a good bit of kale, arugula, and broccoli, and think my diet is pretty well rounded. Should I be taking a fiber drink? What are some other foods I should be eating? Unfortunately, I get hemorrhoids at least once a year, and I really want to know what I should be doing to prevent them.
-Anonymous
Q6 - 21:42
Q: I recently had weird aches and pains in my arms and legs and something that I read online told me I needed to increase my salt intake. I drank some salt water and immediately felt better, it was so odd! I am confused because I usually hear that I need to stay away from salt and sodium, esp if I am trying to lose weight. But as I started reading more online, I am finding that a lot of diets, esp the Keto diet, encourage salt. I feel really puffy when I eat a lot of salt and can’t imagine it is good for you. What’s the verdict?
-Terri in Long Beach
Q7 - 23:05
Q: I have figured out by the process of elimination that my body really doesn’t respond well to dairy. I cut it out a couple months ago and I feel so much better, my skin has cleared up, I have more energy, and I am much more regular in the bathroom. I keep going back to the commercials that say “Milk does a body good”…growing up it was hammered in me that we needed to drink milk for calcium. What are some good ways that I can be sure I am getting calcium without cutting out milk?
-Brenda in Lynchburg
Q8 - 24:16
Q: Can you explain the difference in Saturated Fats and Unsaturated fats? Am I supposed to be eating both of these? How many fats should I have each day?
-Katie in Lexington
Q9 - 26:04
Q: As you suggested in the podcast, I am waking up in the morning and I am taking my blood sugar and it ranges from 95-100 in the fasted state. I’ve read different things online that say this is considered pre-diabetic, and others that say this is normal- what are your thoughts? Should I be concerned, and what should I try to do in order to lower this naturally?
-Tammy in Grand Rapids
Q10 - 28:42
Q: I went to a Kinesiologist that my friend recommended to me, and he said that I have a lot of toxic metals in my body. I don’t really understand what this means. How did I get them, and what are some things I can do to get rid of them? Is there a way that I can test the metals myself?
-Andrea in St Petersburg
Q11 - 30:40
Q: My husband refuses to use my “hippy” toothpaste as he calls it, and I can’t get him to try a non-fluoride toothpaste. Do you think it is a big deal to use non fluoride toothpaste? I have gotten a little paranoid lately and am concerned about the Fluoride levels in the water at my house as well. Should I be?
-Kim in St Louis
Q12 - 32:48
Q: I am in Real Estate (like you!) and so as you can understand, I am ALWAYS on my cellphone. I’ve been reading about EMF poisoning lately and it is starting to freak me out. Am I better off talking on speaker phone, or using headphones?
-Cara in South Carolina

LISTENER QUESTIONS
Q1 - 17:53
I loved your podcast with April when she talked about healing her cancer naturally. She said that she recommends using a lot of Chinese herbs, but didn’t really specify which herbs were Chinese and what the best herbs are for helping fight cancer. I am hoping that Jane can help clarify?
- Naomi in Chesterfield
Q2 - 20:20
I recently had a raised garden bed installed at my house. At first I planted a bunch of veggies but I wasn’t really happy with how they turned out and it was just too much work. I want to turn the bed into an herb garden. What are some of the most useful, low maintenance herbs that I can plant in there?
- Sutton in New Jersey
Q3- 22:38
I am super diet conscious and eat really clean, my weight is in normal range, but I STILL struggle with my blood pressure. I really really don’t want to be on blood pressure meds for life. Have you seen any situations where people were able to regulate their blood pressure using herbs?
- Alan in Virginia Beach
Q4 - 27:41
I am excited to hear from an herbalist on your podcast, I am always looking for all natural remedies for my children because I really want to keep them off antibiotics. Which herbs are the best to have on hand for children? My kids are relatively healthy, they just deal with the sniffles, sore throats, ear infections that are common for kids their age. Are there any herbs that are UNSAFE for kids, and is there anything I should have them all the time as a preventative?
- Amy in Northern Virginia
Q5- 29:44
My husband found a tick on him about 3 months ago and hasn’t been feeling well lately. Of course I googled way more than I should have and I am convinced that he has Lyme Disease… He says I am a hypochondriac, and of course won’t go to the doctor. Are there any herbs that I could slip him that would help with his symptoms, and potentially help prevent the Lyme Disease from developing? He is tired and achy all the time, complains of a headache a lot, and commonly has a slight fever.
- Anonymous
Q6 - 31:55
I have always struggled with hormonal imbalances and my doctor keeps me on birth control to help with this. I really want to wean off the birth control (W/O giving too much information, I don’t need it as a contraceptive). I want to take a more natural approach, so I have two questions. 1) Are there any herbs that will help regulate my hormones? 2) If so, is it safe to take them WHILE I am on my birth control, and how do you recommend I slowly wean myself off?
-Brenda in Quebec
Q7 - 34:58
I started getting lumps and red bumps in my armpits. I’ve weaned myself off wearing any type of deodorant/antiperspirant and I feel so much better! Lumps and bumps are completely gone and after a week or so I found that I’m not even sweating there anymore and no odor at all! Is it healthier to just wear no deodorant/antiperspirant at all? Are there any natural herbs that help act as an antiperspirant?
- Sheri in Texas
Q8 - 38:12
I had shingles about 3 years ago during a stressful time in my life. Unfortunately, it has just come back again. The case wasn’t yet severe, and my Doctor put me on Valtrex, which seems to be helping the shingles go away, but I really hate taking “drugs”…is there anything I should be taking now to help the active case that I have, and is there anything that I could take regularly to help prevent them from coming back?
- Joanne in Virginia Beach

Listener Questions
Q1 - 16:04
My biggest problem when I am eating is that I become a food zombie, I eat so fast and without paying attention! I notice that if I am eating with other people I am always the first to finish. Eating fast also causes me to eat more, but I am having the worst time trying to slow down. I am really busy, and I don’t want to waste a huge portion of my life sitting there and eating, even though I know I need to. Do you have any advice for this?
- Frankie in Corpus Christi
Q2 - 18:00
My daughter and I have this tradition where every Friday night, we have a movie night and watch a movie that she picks, and eat a whole bunch of popcorn and snacks. I really love this time with her, and the snacks have become part of our tradition. The problem is that I’ve noticed I can eat a massive bowl of popcorn without even realizing it. What’s the saying…once you pop you can’t stop? Anyways, I don’t want to give up this tradition with my daughter, but I also don’t want to feel like total crap at the end of the movie! How can I still enjoy this time without eating a huge bowl of everything but the kitchen sink?
- Sarah in Delaware
Q3 - 20:00
I recently heard a podcast where they were talking about ‘The Big Four’…making sure you are getting some protein, fat, fiber, and greens with each meal. I have a pretty good idea of what good proteins, fats, and greens are, but am a little stuck on the fiber. Do you agree with this concept of the Big Four, and if so, what are some good sources of Fiber that are easy and I can be sure to include with my meals?
- Rebecca in New Hope
Q4 - 21:47
I have been doing Intermittent Fasting for about a month and I am starting to notice an increase in my energy, and a few pounds lost. The one thing that I really don’t like about it is when I push myself to a longer fasting window, I get super hangry towards the end. On several occasions, I have got so hangry that I completely binge out when I eat the first meal of the day. I know that this is not a healthy way to do Intermittent Fasting…starving myself and then binging out. How can I find the balance of letting my stomach growl and get hungry before I eat, but then be mindful of what and how I eat when I open my eating window?
-Melanie in Chesapeake
Q5 - 23:39
I’ve read so many recipes and articles lately about power smoothies, and almost every recipe says to use a scoop of “Your Favorite Protein Powder” or “Protein Powder of Your Choice”…my issue is I have never bought protein powder so I have no clue what kind I like, or what kind would be best for me. I hear people talk about plant based protein, collagen, soy, whey, etc. Can you break down the differences in the different types of protein so that I know where to start?
-Alex in Manassas
Q6 - 26:40
I love to cook for my family, and I always feel like food is healthier when I control exactly what is in it and what is added. The problem with cooking is that lately I’ve noticed that I am not even hungry when it comes time to eat. I realized that I am doing so much taste testing, trying every ingredient and trying the food every step of the process that I am eating way more than I realize. I like to try it to see how it tastes before I feed it, but I don’t want to keep tacking on these extra calories. What do you recommend?
-Tara in Tennessee
Q7 - 27:49
I love the Hunger Scale that you included in your book, it is way more simple to understand than some of the other ones that I’ve seen. You say that we shouldn’t go past a four or five when we are eating, which is extremely stuffed. How can I recognize when I am getting too stuffed and should stop eating, what signs should I look for in my body?
- Jamie in NC

CRW PODCAST QUESTIONS
Q1 - 5:49
My mood swings have been OUT OF CONTROL lately and I have been doing research trying to figure out what is going on because I don’t have anything going on in my life that would justify this moodiness. I have been reading a lot about gut health, and gut feelings, and am intrigued. Do you believe that our gut truly affects our mood, and how does this work?
-Liz in Cooperstown
Q2 - 7:27
I am a recovering sugar addict, and a mom of one. I want to know how to curb my sugar cravings and eat healthier in general! BUT, I get hung up on the fact that I have Oral Allergy Syndrome which causes my body to be oversensitive to the pollen in most fresh fruits and veggies. I get an allergic reaction including throat and tongue swelling. Common foods I cant have are apples, bananas, pears, peaches, plums, carrots, green beans, and celery. Help!!!
-Mira. (Sounds like Mee-ruh), Eau Claire, WI
Q3 - 11:32
I can NOT shake this funk I am feeling! I haven’t felt like myself in months. I am tired all the time, even though I am getting the same amount of sleep I’ve always got. I have been following your 80/20 principle and eating clean 80% of the time, and have even been keeping an eye on my gluten and dairy. I had my doctor run a panel and he said that everything looked completely normal. What could be wrong?
-Angel in Harrisonburg
Q4 - 14:14
I am trying so hard to get more sleep because everyone tells me how important it is when I am trying to lose weight, but I just can’t seem to make myself go to bed early! I try to get in bed around 9 and usually end up staring at my ceiling or my phone until atleast 11pm or almost
midnight. Sleeping in is not an option for me, so I need to figure out how I can make myself go to bed earlier and sleep through the night.
* Brenna in Massachusetts
Q5 - 16:28
I read online that being outside and getting sunlight will help with my gut health which I think is CRAZY! I have no idea how the two are connected, but I am wondering how I can implement this, how much time do I need to spend outside to enjoy the benefits of sunlight and fresh air, and do you have any tips to squeeze this into my day?
* Michelle in Hampton
Q6 - 19:11
I’ve recently been diagnosed with Adrenal Fatigue, and I am trying to figure out how to get a handle on it the natural way. What are some foods that I should be focusing on eating, and what are the foods that I should be avoiding? Are there any natural supplements and vitamins that you recommend I take?
* Holly in Atlanta
Q7 - 29:30
I am working hard to regulate my blood sugar naturally and am focusing on foods with a low glycemic index. What are some of the best things that I should be eating? Also, do you think buying organic makes a big difference?
* Katherine in SC
Q8 - 37:28
I’ve recently started making smoothies in the morning and try to squeeze as much green stuff in there as I can! A friend recommended buying frozen organic spinach, because it’s cheaper than fresh spinach AND it makes the smoothies cold and icy which I love. I am just curious if frozen spinach has all the same properties as fresh spinach? Is there any difference?
* Rachel in Columbia
Q9 - 41:06
I’ve always heard that weight loss is 90% what you eat, and that exercise isn’t as important, but I want to start moving and trying to kick my weight loss up a notch. I work a full time job and have two kids, so I don’t have a ton of time, but I am committed to carving out atleast 30 minutes a couple times a week. What is the best exercise I can do to maximize this small amount of time?

In this episode we answer some of the most popular questions that we're asked alot! We talk about how you can identify your hunger scale, how to stop LATE NIGHT snacking, and when and if you should start OMAD (One Meal A Day) fasting! This is part 2 of a special two part Q&A series. Enjoy!
Q1 - 01:20
I read your book and enjoyed the idea of the Hunger Scale. I am just having a hard time identifying what my hunger level is? What are some ways that you identify physical hunger, or true hunger as you call it?
-April in Tampa
Q2 - 06:26
My job is crazy, and my favorite thing to do in the evening is unwind with some reality tv, and something salty like pretzels or popcorn. I eat really clean all day while I am working and this is my one ritual that I really enjoy at night, even if I am not super hungry. Do you have any tips where I can still enjoy my snacks and not give them up completely? I don’t want to give up my nighttime snacks, but I really want to try your program.
-Myra in Winston Salem
Q3 - 10:47
I’ve been doing Intermittent Fasting for 6 months and I still cannot wrap my brain around the lack of appetite! Before I started, if I didn’t eat every 3 hours, internal alarms would go off. Actual sirens!!!. Now I just have a glass of water and chill and the hunger seems to pass. It seems so weird to not be obsessing about the next meal, but I like it! To kick things up a notch, I want to try moving from a 6 hour window to OMAD, what are your thoughts on this?

Q1 - 01:21
On your podcast, you always talk about healing your body through fasting, but I just don’t get how all this works, it sounds really vague. Can you please explain?
-Wanda in Sacramento
Q2 - 05:28
The other day my friend told me that I shouldn’t be drinking water with my meals. I thought this was CRAZY….I have always heard I should drink water with every meal. Have you heard of this, and is it true? I can’t imagine eating without drinking water at the same time!
- Priscilla in Dallas
Q3 - 10:00
In your book, you talk about the 80/20 Principle a lot, but you’ve mentioned on the podcast that you try to eat cleaner than that because you have thyroid issues. Where do you come up with these numbers? If I don’t have health issues, or need to lose a ton of weight, could I do more of a 70/30?
-Terri in Kentucky
Q4 - 13:16
I am so excited for my summer vacation next week! This will be my first time going out of town since I started Intermittent Fasting. I currently stick to a 6 hour eating window every day, and do one 24 hour fast per week. I don’t want to completely go off the rails while I am on vacation. What do you do when you travel, and what do you recommend?
-Patty in Newport News

CRW PODCAST QUESTIONS

In your last podcast about CBD oil, the guest mentioned that it doesn’t matter how you take it. I have been taking it in my water, but I notice that the oil doesn’t really mix with the water, so I am not getting my full dose, some of the oil sticks around the walls of the cup and I am wasting a lot. What is a better way that I can take this oil?

In looking into CBD oil I read nothing but good things! I only have two questions. 1) Are there are any substances that I should NOT use or take while taking CBD? 2) I am big into essential oils and I mix several with coconut oil to rub on and apply for things like my carpal tunnel and back pain. Can I mix my CBD oil in with these oils, or does it need to be taken orally?

Hey Guys! In Today's Podcast Preview, we took a little clip from my talk with Felice Gersh M.D. (Full Episode Down Below). The Majority of women have elevated levels of testosterone and a smaller percentage have elevated levels of DHEA Sulfate. Until these levels go down, the elevated hair growth will not stop. These days "laser hair removal" is actually considered "laser hair REDUCTION". The only permanent hair removal is electrolysis which is somewhat a dying art. The most effective way is going to be to lower and regulate those testosterone levels, and you can do this through FASTING. This is just part of one of the questions from the episode so make sure to check out the full version.

CRW PODCAST QUESTIONS
Q - 02:29
Like a lot of moms, I am constantly trying to find the balance of feeding my family healthy foods and also sticking to a budget. My main questions are about meats and veggies. First of all, which veggies do I absolutely need to buy organic, and which ones can I skip on and just wash really good? When it comes to meat, my husband is a big steak guy, he wants to eat steak all the time! I’ve noticed there is a big difference in pricing of grass feed meat and meat that isn’t grass fed. First of all, what even constitutes grass fed meat? And second, is it worth spending the extra mone?
- Carol in Florida
Q - 12:59
The other day I was going out to grab lunch and I offered to pick her up an Ahi Tuna Bowl because we eat these together all the time! It is one of our favorite healthy, go-to’s. But this time my coworker told me she was going to pass because she heard that there is a lot of mercury in the fish lately. Is this true? I always think of tuna as one of the healthiest clean proteins and I hate to cut it out of my diet. She did mention that she already has exceptionally high mercury levels so I am wondering if this varies from person. Maybe there is a chance my levels are lower than hers? Do we all need to be wary of mercury, and how do I find out what my levels are?
-Alyssa in Virginia Beach
Q - 17:01
I live in Virginia Beach, and one of my favorite things to do in the summer time is to grab a cold beer and a dozen raw oysters at a local restaurant. If you ask me, it’s one of the best parts of living at the beach! I am not sure if this happens at other beaches, but here in Virginia Beach, we’ve had a couple days this summer where we had swim advisories on certain streets of the ocean front saying that we shouldn’t swim there because there was too much bacteria in the water. Gross! I’ve lived here for ten years and don’t remember hearing anything like this. What does this even mean? And my biggest question is how does this affect my delicious oysters that live in this water that we are not allowed to swim in? The last time I ate oysters, my stomach didn’t feel well. I am wondering if this was in my head, or is there a tie between this and the bacteria in my water? I always thought that oysters were a healthy go to!
- Patty in Virginia Beach
Q - 20:33
What are your thoughts on buying pre-cut, pre-packaged fruits and veggies? I am a super busy (Like everyone else LOL) and I find that I only eat my fruits and veggies if it is super convenient and prewashed, especially my spinach and greens. The other day I read online that Trader Joes had a recall on watermelon that came pre-cut and this grossed me out! It got me wondering if this convenience was worth it. What do you think caused this recall, and should I try to avoid pre-packaged foods?
- Parker in Charleston, WV
Q - 24:16
I have been struggling with a lot of autoimmune issues for a couple years now, and after listening to the doctors on your podcast I decided that I needed to clean up the way I am eating. Dairy was a big thing that I cut out, and have replaced 100% with almond milk and coconut milk. I also have been eating a lot of healthy fats like Avocados. I am starting to feel better, but I notice that my weight loss has slowed down. Am I doing something wrong?
-Cassie in Charlottesville
Q - 27:49
Your podcast inspired me to hit up my local juice bar and pick up a yummy green juice! After I paid, I noticed the expiration date was for the next day. I asked them when they made the juice and they said it was five days earlier! I remember you talking about how we should drink the juices we make right away so this kind of grossed me out that this juice was sitting in the jar for five days! Can you refresh my memory on how long fresh juice is good to drink after it’s made? I have a small juicer at home, I know it would be best that I make it myself. It is just a hassle!!

Q – 35:36
When I visited my gynecologist, she told me she “thought” that I had PCOS, but that there is no true way to tell. She knows that I am not trying to conceive at this time in my life, and brushed it off like it was something I shouldn’t be concerned with since I am not trying to get pregnant. I do want to have kids one day, and I am not comfortable with the fact that something could potentially be wrong. What can I do to be improving my health, so that when I am ready to have children, I can maximize my chances of conceiving?
-Jennifer in Little Rock
Q – 46:13
My Doctor prescribed me with Birth Control as a way to treat my PCOS, and said that I needed it in order to keep my period regular. I personally HATE birth control side effects, the weight gain, mood swings, etc. Also, I just don’t like taking medicine every day! But I have remained on it because my Dr told me to. Is it true that this is the best treatment for PCOS, or is there a more natural remedy that you recommend?
-Jordan in NC
Q –50:09
I love your podcast and I am so excited that you are having a doctor on to talk about PCOS, because sometimes I feel alone in my struggle with it. What are some of the best natural supplements that a woman with PCOS should take? Are there certain foods that I should be sure to include in my diet, and certain foods that I should leave out?
-Nicole in Saratoga
Q – 54:05
One of my least favorite side effects of PCOS is the embarrassing hair on my face. When I went in for laser hair removal, they even told me that they told me that they wouldn’t even guarantee that it would work for someone that struggles with PCOS. I was so discouraged, I don’t want to deal with this beard forever! Do you have any recommendations for natural hair removal that are effective, or a way that I can curb my facial hair growth?
-Anonymous
Q – 57:39
My sister struggles with PCOS, and had a really hard time conceiving. Sadly, she also had a miscarriage on one of her pregnancies. I was wondering if miscarriages can be related to PCOS, or if PCOS only affects your ability to conceive? I ask because my Doctor told me that it is common for PCOS to run in sisters and I am curious what my future will be like if I decide to have children?
-Ashley in Springfield
Q –1:01:53
I struggle with PCOS which means that I don’t get a period consistently. Sometimes I go 3-4 months without a period, so when I do, the cramps are out of this world! I almost can’t function, they are so bad, extending to my legs and my back. Without being too gross, the flow is extremely heavy as well. What are some ways that I can help alleviate these symptoms of my out of the control periods?
